How To Install Nextbook7 (NX700QC16G) USB Drivers on Windows 8 & 8.1

Many users of Windows 8 and 8.1 (probably Windows 10 as well)  face a problem when installing USB drivers for their MediaTek device, like the Nextbook7 model NX700QC16G. USB drivers are required when you update the firmware in your device with SP Flash Tools or any other similar tool.

The problem is that many devices' USB drivers are unsigned drivers. Digitally signed drivers are signed using code signing certificates. This certificate is an electronic fingerprint that indicates which company the driver was produced by as well as an indication as to whether the driver has been modified since the company released it.

To install the USB drivers for the Nextbook7 (NX700QC16G) on windows 8 and up, you need to disable "Driver Signature Enforcement".

Steps To Disable Driver Signature Enforcement

Press the Win + C keyboard combination to bring up the Charms Bar, then click on the gear with the word "Settings".

Click on "Change PC settings".

Click on “Update & recovery”.

Then click on the "Recovery" on the left hand side.

Once selected, you will see an advanced startup section appear on the right hand side. Click on the “Restart now” button.

Once your Computer has rebooted you will need to click the "Troubleshoot" option.

Then click "Advanced options".

Then click "Startup Settings".

Since we are modifying boot time configuration settings, you will need to restart your Computer one last time. Click "Restart" button.

After the PC restarts, you will be given a list of startup settings that you can change. The one we are looking for is “Disable driver signature enforcement”. To choose the setting, you will need to press the F7 key.

Your PC will then reboot and you will be able to install unsigned drivers without any error message.

Download the USB Drivers

Download the Drivers here.

Unzip the file. It should create a folder called win_7_8_usb_drivers. Remember this and where it's at because you will need to browser to it later.

Right click on "My Computer" and then choose "Manage". This will open the "Computer Management" window.

In the panel on the left, click on "Device Manager".

In the panel on the right, find your PC's name (usually at the top of the list). Right click your PC's name and choose "Add legacy hardware".

The "Add Hardware Wizard" should start up. Click the "Next" button.

Click the option "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)".

Click "Show All Devices" at the top of the list. And click the "Next" button.

Click the "Have Disk" button.

Click the "Browse" button.

Browse to win_7_8_usb_drivers

If you have Windows 7 or 8 32bit select the usb2er_Win7.inf file.
Or if you have Windows 7 or 8 64bit select usb2er_Win64.inf file.

Click the "Open" button.

Click Next on the wizard to install the drivers. When promoted for security issue just click on install any anyway to finish the driver installation.

Click Finish 

Restart your PC.

Click here to do the firmware update.

Nextbook 7 NX700QC16G Firmware Update

You will need to update the firmware on your Nextbook 7 in order to fix the problem with having only 1GB of storage space for apps. Below is the process for doing this. It's not very difficult but I'd advise you have a decent understanding of computers and mobile devices. If you don't, you may want to have a friend of family member help or do it for you that does.

You will need to download some files. I will assume you have the usb drivers installed on your PC and confirmed that connecting your Nextbook 7 to your PC via USB cable is working. If  you haven't done that yet, please see my other blog post about installing the USB drivers.

Download The Firmware Update

First you need to down load the firmware update from the NextbookUSA website. You can click here to go to the firmware download page.

At the bottom of the page find the section "Updates Nextbook tablet". From the drop down box in that section choose "Firmware downloads".

Scroll down to the section labeled "Nextbook 7 (NX700QC16G) firmware update instructions:"

Click the big blue "Download" button next to "Firmware Update File".

Save the file to your PC and wait for it to finish downloading. This could take some time depending on your internet speed due to the file size being over 2G.

Once the is done downloading, locate the file on your PC. The file name you are looking for is NXM7100LVD_WM_20141010_V1.0.14_4.4.2_20141023.zip. Right click the file and choose Winzip/Extract Here. If you are using another archive extraction tool on your PC, choose that one to unpack the file. This will take some time to unpack since the file is about 2G in size.

Download The Flash Tool

Since the flash tool on Nextbook USA website doesn't work, you are going to get one from a different website. The flash tool we are going to use is called "SP Flash Tool" and you can download it by clicking here. Scroll down and find the download link titled "SP Flash Tool v 3.1420.00 (5.1420.00)". Click he link title "SP Flash Tool v 3.1420.00 (5.1420.00)" and save it somewhere on your PC.

Once the file has downloaded you will need to locate the file and unpack it. The file is called "SP_Flash_Tool_exe_windows_v5.1420.00.rar". Right click the file and choose Winzip/Extract to here. Or choose the archive tool you have installed on your PC and extract it.

Apply The Nextbook 7 Firmware Update

Very important! You need to turn off your anti-virus software because some anti-virus might tell you the SP Flash Tool is a virus and block you from running it. So disable your anti-virus software. I'm using Avast and I right clicked the icon in the system tray and choose "avast! shields control", then "Disable until computer is restarted". If you aren't using Avast anti-virus, you will need to figure out how to disable your anti-virus software. If you are running any malware or other type of protection software, you should disable that as well. Some people have reported they needed to disable windows defender also.

Locate the firmware folder you extracted above. The folder is called "SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1420.03". Depending on how you chose to extract it, it maye be located inside "SP_Flash_Tool_exe_windows_v5.1420.00" folder. Double click the folder called "SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1420.03" and find the file called "flash_tool.exe". Right click "flash_tool.exe" and choose "Run as administrator". Click "Run" in the popup, then click "Allow" in the next popup if these dialog boxes popup.

Once the tool opens, click on "Scatter-loading" button.

In the "Open Scatter File" dialog box, browse to "NXM7100LVD_WM_20141010_V1.0.14_4.4.2_20141023\images" folder.

Select the file named "MT8127_Android_scatter.txt".

Click open button or double click the file named "MT8127_Android_scatter.txt".

Click the arrow to the right of the drop down box that says "Download Only"

Choose "Firmware Upgrade".

Make sure you tablet is off and not connected to your PC.

Click the green "Download" arrow

With the tablet off, connect the Nextbook 7 tablet it to your PC with the USB cable.

At the bottom of the "Smart Phone Flash Tool" window, you should see a progress bar running.
Note: If you do not see the bar, try plugging the USB cable into a different USB port on your PC.

Wait untill a window with a green circle and white check mark pops up. Mine took about 4minutes. Yours might take longer, so wait for it.

Remove the USB cable from your tablet and turn the tablet on.

It will take several minutes for the table to finaly load.

You should now be presented with the "Startup Wizard" on your tablet.

Go through the wizard if you wish.

Congradulations! Your tablet firmware is now updated! If you go to settings/storage you will now see one large partition with about 13.12GB of available space.

USB Drivers For Nextbook7 NX700QC16G

If you went to http://www.nextbookusa.com/download.php and downloaded the "Driver" link and tried to unzip the file you will get tons of CRC errors. To fix this I had to install the Android SDK and copy files from it to what I unzipped from nextbookusa.com.

If your OS on your PC is below Windows 8, continue with the process below.

Download and Install USB Drivers

I have the driver for the Nextbook 7 (NX700QC) available for download. The previous process is no longer needed. Unless maybe this fails for you, then you can revert to the previous way of installing the drivers. 

Download the Drivers here.

Unzip the file

Open the folder named nextbook7-NX700QC16G-usb-drivers

Double click on Install.bat

You most likely will see the following windows popup a few times.

"An unidentified program wants to access your computer"

Click Allow

"Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software "

Click "Install this driver software anyway."

It will take several minutes.

Once it's done you will see in the black window that they have successfully installed.

At this point you may need to unplug tablet if you have it plugged in, and re plug it it in.
You should see on your tablet, "USB Connected". If you'd like to view the files on the tablet
you can click "Turn on USB Storage". You can now browser your tablet in windows explorer. Or proceed with the firmware update.

You are done. No need to read any further.

OLD WAY OF DOING IT

Download the USB drivers from NextbookUSA web site.

Go to http://www.nextbookusa.com/download.php

Scroll down and the look for the section "Updates". It should be at the very bottom.

In the drop down box choose "Firmware downloads"

Scroll down to the last section called "Nextbook 7 (NX700QC16G)"

Click the big blue button that is on the right of the word "Driver"

Save the file to your Desktop or somewhere on your PC.

Unzip the USB drivers

When it finishes downloading you need to unzip the file.

I use winzip to extract archived files. Use whatever extraction tool you have. The following is for winzip but the same or similar messages below should pop up. You will just keep clicking OK, YES, CONTINUE, buttons until the extraction process is done.

While it is unzipping you will get the following or similar error messages:

"Some data in your Zip file is damaged - CRC check failed"
Click OK button

"Would you like WinZip to try to continue with the next file?
Click Yes button

"Error: Invalid compressed data to expand(inflate) the file.
Click OK button

"Error Unable to extract......."
Click OK button

Just keep clicking those buttons until the file is done unpacking.

Copy Good DLLs into the NextbookUSA driver folder(s)

If you have an intel processor do the section labeled i386 below.
If you have an AMD processor do the section labeled AMD.

i386

Download the 3 DLLs for i386 here.

Copy the 3 DLLs  to the nextbook drivers folder: Driver\SP_Drivers_v1.5\SP_Drivers_v1.5\i386

AMD

I have not tested the AMD drivers. But I'm assuming this will work. The DLLs you download below are for AMD. Please leave me a comment if this works for your AMD PC, or if it does not.

Download the 3 DLLs for AMD here

Copy the 3 DLLs to the nextbook drivers folder: Driver\SP_Drivers_v1.5\SP_Drivers_v1.5\amd64 

Run The USB Driver Installer

Go to the Driver\Driver\Driver_Auto_Installer_v1.1236.00 folder and run install.bat

Note: if it looks like it's frozen after a few minutes, try hitting enter

At this point you may need to unplug tablet if you have it plugged in, and re plug it it in.
You should see on your tablet, "USB Connected". If you'd like to view the files on the tablet
you can click "Turn on USB Storage". You can now browser your tablet in windows explorer. Or proceed with the firmware update.

Fixing Storage On NextBook7 (NX700QC16G)

The purpose of this blog is to help people fix the app storage problem on the NextBook 7 (NX700QC16G) tablet.

When you purchase this tablet, most likely you bought the Nextbook 7 from Walmart, you are told there is 16G of storage space. While this is true you will quickly learn that only about 1G of space is available for you to install apps on. While leaving the rest of the 16G of storage unusable for installing apps.

I'm on top of this and will show you how to overcome this problem as NextbookUSA website doesn't seem to have a clue or care how to fix this problem. The hardware of this device is awesome for the $49 or $59 you paid. Quad-Core, 16G of storage and 1G of RAM for $49 or $59 is a great deal! I'll show you how to fix the storage problem. It's a shame you have to modify your tablet after purchase to get it working properly, but as the saying goes, you get what  you pay for! So follow me as I show you how to get this tablet working!
