How To Install Nextbook7 (NX700QC16G) USB Drivers on Windows 8 & 8.1

Many users of Windows 8 and 8.1 (probably Windows 10 as well)  face a problem when installing USB drivers for their MediaTek device, like the Nextbook7 model NX700QC16G. USB drivers are required when you update the firmware in your device with SP Flash Tools or any other similar tool.

The problem is that many devices' USB drivers are unsigned drivers. Digitally signed drivers are signed using code signing certificates. This certificate is an electronic fingerprint that indicates which company the driver was produced by as well as an indication as to whether the driver has been modified since the company released it.

To install the USB drivers for the Nextbook7 (NX700QC16G) on windows 8 and up, you need to disable "Driver Signature Enforcement".

Steps To Disable Driver Signature Enforcement

Press the Win + C keyboard combination to bring up the Charms Bar, then click on the gear with the word "Settings".

Click on "Change PC settings".

Click on “Update & recovery”.

Then click on the "Recovery" on the left hand side.

Once selected, you will see an advanced startup section appear on the right hand side. Click on the “Restart now” button.

Once your Computer has rebooted you will need to click the "Troubleshoot" option.

Then click "Advanced options".

Then click "Startup Settings".

Since we are modifying boot time configuration settings, you will need to restart your Computer one last time. Click "Restart" button.

After the PC restarts, you will be given a list of startup settings that you can change. The one we are looking for is “Disable driver signature enforcement”. To choose the setting, you will need to press the F7 key.

Your PC will then reboot and you will be able to install unsigned drivers without any error message.

Download the USB Drivers

Unzip the file. It should create a folder called win_7_8_usb_drivers. Remember this and where it's at because you will need to browser to it later.

Right click on "My Computer" and then choose "Manage". This will open the "Computer Management" window.

In the panel on the left, click on "Device Manager".

In the panel on the right, find your PC's name (usually at the top of the list). Right click your PC's name and choose "Add legacy hardware".

The "Add Hardware Wizard" should start up. Click the "Next" button.

Click the option "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)".

Click "Show All Devices" at the top of the list. And click the "Next" button.

Click the "Have Disk" button.

Click the "Browse" button.

Browse to win_7_8_usb_drivers

If you have Windows 7 or 8 32bit select the usb2er_Win7.inf file.
Or if you have Windows 7 or 8 64bit select usb2er_Win64.inf file.

Click the "Open" button.

Click Next on the wizard to install the drivers. When promoted for security issue just click on install any anyway to finish the driver installation.

Click Finish

Restart your PC.

  2. When I try to install the drivers on a windows 8 computer it says the android_winusb.inf is invalid. Any idea how to make it work?

  3. You could try the drivers a this link http://thebroodle.com/microsoft/windows/how-to-install-mtk65xx-preloader-usb-vcom-drivers-in-windows/

They have other drivers you can try. Let me know if it works.

  4. I'm having the same problem as above, also on win 8 machine. Get "A service installatoin in this INF is invalid." The link you provided downloads an EXE that didn't make it through my antivirus. Any other ideas?

    1. Once you have disabled driver signature enforcement, you can try following the instructions on my other page. Not sure if they will work, but its worth a shot. Sorry these drivers aren't working. I did not have a win 8 machine to test it on.

    2. Hey Tim,

I'm getting the same error Jodi was getting with "A service installation in this INF is invalid." I followed the driver install guide and tried it both on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines with the same result, any other ideas? Thanks!

    4. Hey Tim:
Thanks for the instructions; they were perfect, but the USB driver for Windows 8.1 is defective. Stayed up half the night trying to get it to work, then decided to install the firmware using my old computer's Windows 7 operating system. Firmware was installed quickly, without a problem. My suggestion to anyone having a problem installing the firmware update with Windows 8.1: Spare yourself the headache and frustration; save the install files on a flashdrive, find a friend or relative who has a computer with the Windows 7 or XP operation system and use their computer to install the firmware update. The Nextbook 7 is a great little tablet after the update.

    1. They have Android Studio and SDK that runs on Mac. So there must be a way. You'd have to find SP Flash Tool or equivalent that runs on Mac too. Sorry, I never owned an Apple product so I wouldn't know how to do it. But what I said above should give you some clue what to search for. Good luck!

    2. I'll pulled out my old windows xp laptop, but cannot get the flash tool to work. It keeps being downloaded in an unrecognizable format. I downloaded WinZip to open, but it still isn't working. Any thoughts? Do I need another version of the SP Flash Tool? Where can I look for those?

  6. I successfully flashed on Win8.1. I found the right driver to use here:
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/root-rca-7-voyager-rct6773w22-tablet-t2954669/page28
Download the driver package, unzip, and follow the directions in the post above for everything else. You'll want to install either "usb2ser_Win7.inf" or "usb2ser_Win764.inf" for x86 or x64 machines, respectively.Worked like a charm. Hope this helps!

    1. Thanks for the info!
I've updated this post and my driver package to include those 2 inf files.
Was those inf files all you need to install the drivers? Or do you need the entire package and just move those 2 files in place?

    2. Glad I could be of help. Yup, those .inf files are all you need. Just use your above process of adding legacy hardware and browse to the right one for your architecture.

Updated the process above and the driver package again.

  8. I just finished this firmware upgrade and it all went smoothly! Thank you. Your a life saver.
I am having a problem though trying to restore my backup that I made through the recovery/restore mode. I had tried going back into recovery to restore my backed up data in file.tdb but did not show up. I can however see it in my file browser though. When I did back it up it was onto my SD card which I removed after I did, the SD card was mounted as /sdcard2 a and now is /sdcard2 don't know if that makes a difference because I am somewhat a noob at this.
Does anyone have this problem as well, or can someone at least point me in the right direction? I would appreciate it, and thanks again

  9. Does this work with the Nextbook 8? I have tried following the steps on a Win 8.1 computer and on a Win 7 computer. Both computers see the tablet but when I start the flash it never gives me a progress bar it just sits there. I have tried all the USB ports... NADA... not sure what to do.

  10. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have followed all the instructions yet nothing seems to be happening. The app shows up but it does not look like it is downloading to my tablet because it does not show how much it has downloaded. I have tried connecting my tablet to every hole but it does not change anything. My tablet charges that is all that happens. I really need help.
